Hugging Limestones

Bosnian beauty and bosnian tourism

When was the last time you went out into Nature and refreshed your being so as to …

  • expose yourself visually to the greenery of plants, or watch clean creek-water ?
  • refine your audio system away from musical rubbish and meaningless conversation so that you hear only the birds ?
  • touch the rough bark of an oak or take in your hand a polished stone, thus feeding your kinesthetic system ?
  • smell the flowers, and through your olfactory system store those beautiful associations in your long-term memory ?
  • taste wild berries (but be careful !), thus developing your gustatory system ?

Numerous high quality impressions, these can be turned into quality content in your blog, a PP presentation, a photo album or an educational video and, carefully processed, become a ‘product launch’ into the online world.

For example: if you went into the forest and came across an anthill. You’d get very close to it and watch carefully the fantastic orderliness and diligence of these tireless creatures. You’d listen to the noise that thousands of tiny little legs produce; and in the end, fascinated, you’d reward them with a biscuit left on top of their hill as a huge collective lunch !

Then you’d come home, meanwhile sorting the impressions you gained into quality text, in which you make parallels between the ant community and your own environment, drawing some conclusions as to how to improve the latter. The text ends with a call to action and becomes published on the blog.

Now, with regard to this example: possibly in a month your text could be read by hundreds – but only 3 are motivated to do something similar. And what could follow this to year’s end?

Let’s play with numbers a little.

Your published text was seen by hundreds by the end of April, and 3 were motivated into similar action. By the end of May, those 3 do the same, and each of them motivates another 3. If this progression continues till the end of the year, it should look like this:

  • April                                   3
  • May                                     9
  • June                                27
  • July                                 81
  • August                       243
  • September             729
  • October                  2187
  • November            6561
  • December         19683

When we add all them all up, you will have been the cause of 29,524 precious actions, smiles, gifts, job ideas – and many other human interactions !!
In other words, your idea seen as a seed planted in fertile ground could very quickly produce an entire forest ! – with you the spot from which it all grew.

The idea for this article was created hugging’ the Mesozoic limestones on the Goat Rocks near Trtorici village in central Bosnia.

P.S.

English is not my native language so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong somewhere.

  1. Why should we correct you ? – your English is perfectly comprehensible ! 🙂
However, if you WANT to be corrected, that’s another thing …
The thinking behind this post is delightful … that’s what blogging should be about.

  5. Hi Alis! Firstly I found your English well written and very eloquent.
I also liked the content. Can you believe it’s actually my job to get people outdoors and connecting with nature,(when I’m not making ceramics for House on the Hill). So keep up the good work.

  6. It made sense to me when I read it. Not bad at all, considering that English isn’t your first language.

I liked reading this. I used to go on hikes a lot because I worked at a place that has hiking trails. *sigh* I miss it a lot. I need to go take a hike sometime soon.

  8. AnElephant loves your blog and he lives very close to nature.
He lives on the Med, and walks deserted beaches every day.
Last week he visited his family in Scotland and spent a day with his grandson at Lochwinnoch Bird Sanctuary, looking and listening and smelling the natural world in all its beauty.
Thank you for visiting and for bringing AnElephant to this new sanctuary.

  9. This is a fantastic post! I agree with what so many here have already said: No need to be perfect in your ‘English dispensation’… your personality, charm, cool-factor come across loud and clear… keep it going!
